"Wooden Playthings": New toy exhibition at the Museum Gherdëina
“Wooden playthings - tradition and design from Val Gardena” is the title of the new exhibition that opened on December 4. Visitors can experience 70 years of wooden toy history from the company Sevi and even try things out for themselves. The museum’s sculpture exhibition has also been newly redesigned.SEVI toys from Val Gardena (1831-1998)
The toy manufacturer Sevi has handed over around 8,000 original models, from the 1920s up to its closure in 1999, to the Gherdëina Museum. They document an important part of the history of the wooden toy industry in Val Gardena, which was a key pillar of the valley’s economy in the 19th and 20th centuries. The Museum Gherdëina is now dedicating a completely new permanent exhibition to this unique history, where visitors can not only trace the development of wooden toys - shaped by the spirit of the times, technology, and design - but also take an active role themselves. Several interactive stations offer opportunities to craft, experiment, and play, since the exhibition is designed not only for adults but - appropriately for its theme - for children as well.
